The Adoption Process

Considering adding one of our puppies to your family?  How exciting!!!  But what’s the next step?

  1. Visit this link to see what puppies or waiting lists we have available. Available Puppies

  2. Visit this link to fill out an application that all our potential puppy owners complete. Application This is to help me keep track of all my puppy families and to identify and address potential problems that could arise with new puppy ownership before you have paid a deposit.

  3. Contact me, Kristin, for more information and answers to any questions you may have. You can email me at thepuppyfam@gmail.com or direct message me on our Instagram account @thepuppyfamily_.

  4. We have started a notification list for prospective clients who wish to be notified by text message when we open up a waiting list. If you wish to be added to this list, please fill out an application at this link and specify on the application that you wish to be placed on the text message notification list. We also announce when new waiting lists are opened on our Instagram account @thepuppyfamily_

  5. Once you have been assigned a waiting list, you make a $250 NON REFUNDABLE deposit to reserve your spot on that waiting list. All deposits go toward the final sale price of your puppy. Our puppy deposits are transferable, which means if you are not happy with the selection of puppies that are available to choose from, you could transfer your deposit to another one of our waiting lists. You can transfer your deposit up to three times. We always want our puppy families to be 100% satisfied with the puppy they choose. Cash, Zelle, Apple Pay and Venmo are acceptable forms of payment.

  6. Here is an outline of what to expect once you have made the exciting decision to join one of our waiting lists. I will notify you every step of the way. I notify you once the parents of your future puppy have been successfully bred. At this point I will let you know your puppy’s due date so you can start planning! I will also let you know the date we have scheduled the ultrasound to confirm Mama is pregnant. Dogs are only pregnant for 2 months. One week before the puppies are born we have an x ray taken to see how many pups are in there. Both the ultrasound and the x ray are very important diagnostic tests to ensure the well being of our mamas and puppies. I notify you after the x ray and when the puppies are born. Once they are born you can expect weekly email updates about your little growing puppy. I want you to be able to enjoy watching them develop into an amazing pet. When the puppies are 5 weeks old you join us for a puppy picking party!

  7. What’s a puppy picking party? It’s a puppy play date where I schedule a time that my future puppy owners either come to my house or video conference with me and the puppies. It is so fun to interact with the litter and see which puppy speaks to your heart! I schedule each of my future puppy owners, in the order they are on the waiting list, a time slot to come meet the puppies and then select their puppy. The reason I wait until the puppies are 5 weeks old is by that age you can tell what their coat types and little personalities will be like. Your future self will thank you for choosing a puppy that has the right temperament for you and your family instead of just picking the cutest puppy. Good news though, all my puppies are adorable and will receive the early socialization to make them great dogs. So whether you are first on the waiting list or last you really can’t go wrong. Once you have selected a puppy, you will pay another $250 non refundable deposit to hold your puppy. Once you have paid this second deposit, your deposits are no longer transferable. You are making a commitment to that puppy to give him/her a loving home!

  8. If you prefer to not be on the waiting list that works too. Keep an eye on our Instagram account. Once everyone on the waiting list has chosen a puppy and if there are any puppies who have not found homes you can reserve the available puppy of your choice. You can reserve your pup by making a $500 non refundable and nontransferable deposit.

  9. Now you have 3 weeks to prepare to bring your little pup home. I encourage my future puppy owners to contact me with any questions you may have while preparing for your puppy. Once the puppy is 8 weeks old, it’s time to go to his/her new home! At the puppy picking party we will discuss what dates work for you to bring your puppy home.

What to expect on your “Gotcha Day!”

I love “gotcha days” or the day you get to bring your puppy home. Seeing the pure joy on people’s faces as I hand them their new puppy is one of my favorite parts of my job! Your puppy will go home with a puppy information folder that contains our puppy contract, the puppy’s one year health guarantee, important information for both the puppy’s parents and the puppy’s vaccination record. Your puppy will also go home with his/her favorite toy, a blanket that smells like Mama, a dog training clicker, a small bag of puppy food, and a leash. My goodbye gift to all my puppies is a heartbeat stuffed animal I send home with them that smells like their first home to help ease the transition into your home. You will need to pay the remainder of the adoption fee when you pick up the puppy. I accept cash, Zelle, Apple Pay or Venmo. On the drive home and the first night away from litter mates it is normal for your puppy to cry. Your love and attention will quickly replace those lonely litter mate moments though!

What to expect after your “Gotcha Day.”

I am here to help! I’m not gonna lie…puppy/potty training is a challenge. But it is a challenge that I have a lot of experience with so please contact me if you have questions, if you just need to vent, or if you want to celebrate that moment your puppy finally gets it! I love these puppies and I want them to be successful in their new home. If there is a way I can help, I will be more than happy to.

PS- When you send me pictures of my puppies being loved in their new homes it makes my day!
